HarISA Project Will Result in International Joint PhD Studies

University of Montenegro started close cooperation with total of 11 universities from European Union countries and the region of Western Balkans through Erasmus + project –Harmonization and innovation of study programs of doctoral studies for improving the plant health and sustainable agriculture-HarISA, at the beginning of this year.

Nedeljko Latinovic, PhD, the Chairman of the project said that in the plan of this project is the international joint PhD program which will encourage the international and regional cooperation.

Twelve universities, five European Union countries and seven universities from the region of the Western Balkans participate in the project.

 ‘’Data on PhD studies in the field of plant protection from all partner institutions were collected and the joint analysis of the program was presented at two working meetings held in Podgorica and Zagreb. Good management and teaching practices, similarities and differences between individual universities are identified. Information on existing subjects taught at different universities, compared methods, methods of works, human capacities and learning outcomes were exchanged. Also, possibilities of functioning of joint PhD program from plant protection are analyzed. The intensive work will continue at the third meeting which will be held in Belgrade, in October, 2019’’, Latinovic said. 

Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Montenegro, where PhD studies have recently begun, will have the special benefits from the experience from the project for further work of teaching staff employed at PhD studies.

 ‘‘The mobility of students of PhD studies and teaching staff is planned. The joint teaching material, new courses and draft of curricula for this doctoral program will be developed’’, Latinovic said.

The project has for its aim to support the modernization and internationalization of higher education in the field of plant protection and to contribute the cooperation between European Union and Western Balkans countries in the implementation of the European Union policy in this field.

The aim is also to ensure the acquisition of scientific knowledge and transfer of skills and competences for achieving sustainable usage of pesticides and application of main principles of integral plant protection in agricultural production.

The value of the project is 967 614.00 euros, of which 82 853.00 euros are available to the University of Montenegro.

The project started on January 15th, 2019 and it will last until January 14th, 2022 (three years).
