Undergraduate Studies




Study programs of undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro are organized in accordance with rules of studying accorded with European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

The University organizes two types of undergraduate studies - academic and applied, lasting minimum three years, i.e. minimum 180 ECTS credits. Duration of undergraduate studies for regulated professions is as follows: doctors of medicine (6), dentists (6), pharmacists (5), architects (5) and teachers (5).

Study programs are divided into study years and semesters. The volume of the study program that is carried out in one study year is 60 ECTS credits, that is, 30 ECTS credits in one semester.

A bachelors degree is a diploma that students receive after completing a three-year undergraduate studies program (180 ECTS). Upon completion of the study programs in Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy, students are awarded a diploma of completed undergraduate studies and the degree of Doctor of Medicine/Dentistry/Pharmacy.

Along with the diploma of undergraduate studies, a diploma supplement (Supplement) is issued for a more detailed insight into the level, nature, content, system and rules of study and the results achieved during studies.

ENROLMENT INTO UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

Enrollment in the 1st year of studies is regulated by the Rulebook on conditions, criteria and procedure for enrollment in undergraduate studies of the University of Montenegro. Based on the Rulebook, enrollment of students in the first year of undergraduate studies is performed based on a public competition for all study programs. It is published in a daily newspapers published in Montenegro and on the Universitys website.

The university announces a competition for each enrollment period. The first enrollment deadline is organized in the second half of June, and in cases where the number of qualified candidates for enrollment in the first enrollment deadline is less than the established number for enrollment, the second or third enrollment deadline is organized. The second enrollment period is organized in the first half of July, while the third enrollment period is organized in the second half of August of the current year.

Candidates with a four-year secondary education have the right to apply for admission.

A foreign citizen has the right to enroll in study programs of the University of Montenegro under the same conditions as a Montenegrin citizen who pays school fees, in accordance with the Law on Higher Education and the Statute of the University of Montenegro, unless otherwise regulated by an international agreement.

What documentation is needed?

Candidates with a four-year secondary education have the right to apply for the admissions competition.

Along with the enrollment application, a candidate submits the following documents:

  • an original diploma on passing the graduation or vocation exam,
  • original certificates of completed secondary education classes,
  • Birth certificate,
  • certificate of citizenship,
  • "Luča" diploma or an equivalent diploma,
  • diploma (or equivalent document) on winning the first or second prize at the state competition for high school students, organized by the ministry competent for education and science or a competition of a higher level.

A foreign citizen also submits proof of knowledge of the language in which the studies are conducted, except in case of having completed high school in one of the languages ​​that are in official use in Montenegro.

 What is evaluated for enrollment in the study program?

For enrollment in all study programs of the University of Montenegro, the following are evaluated:

  • Results of graduation or vocation exam taken externally
  • general success at the end of individual secondary education classes
  • success in two subjects from the third and fourth grade of secondary education, important for mastering the chosen study program
  • success in supplementary exams - "Luča" diploma or equivalent diploma
  • a diploma (or equivalent document) on winning the first or second prize at a state competition for high school students, organized by the ministry responsible for education and science or a competition of a higher rank, in subjects important for mastering the study program.

Can admission application be submitted to more than one faculty?

When applying for admission to the 1st year of undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro, candidates with a four-year secondary education have the right to submit documents for admission to one study program of the University only. In case when candidate submits duplicates instead of the requested original documents, he is obliged to sign a declaration that he did not use the original documents to exercise the right to enroll in another study program when submitting the documents. A candidate who gives an incorrect statement will be eliminated from the qualification procedure.

What are supplementary exams?

At certain faculties, supplementary exams are organized as additional conditions for enrollment, with the aim of checking knowledge and aptitudes of particular importance for mastering the chosen study program.

These are art faculties (Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Academy of Music), but also the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Medicine (Medicine and Dentistry) and the Psychology study program at the Faculty of Philosophy.

How are candidates ranked?

The ranking list of candidates is formed by the point system defined by the Rulebook on the conditions, criteria and procedure for enrollment in undergraduate studies at the University of Montenegro (see Article 11 Scoring procedure).

Where are rankings published?

Results of the qualification procedure and the ranking list are published on the bulletin board and the website of an organizational unit (www.ucg.ac.me/članice) that is, of the independent study program, with complete data entered in the database for registered students of the University Information System Center.

What is ECTS?

ECTS stands for European Credit Transfer System. One ECTS refers to 30 hours of student work required for one or more of the following activities: contact teaching, learning, practical work, preparation and defense of independent works, taking colloquiums and exams.

Thus, undergraduate studies, depending on duration, can carry a total of 180 ECTS credits, 300 and 360 ECTS credits.
