Aims The aim of this course is to introduce students to the literature and cultural and historical circumstances in the 18th century England, i.e. , in the era of classicism and sentimentalism
Learning outcomes After passing the exam students - will be familiar with the literature, cultural and historical conditions in England in the 18th century, i.e. in the age of Classicism and Sentimentalism; - will get acquainted with the socio-historical context of the 18th century England, and the basic philosophical and political trends of the Age of Reason/Enlightenment; - will be able to name the most important writers and works of the period of Neoclassicism; - will be able to contextualize the most prominent writers of English classicism; - will be able to recognize the main aesthetic, epistemological and political characteristics of Rationalism and (Neo)Classicism; - will be able to independently interpret literary texts created in the era of Neoclassicism in England; - will be able to comprehensively understand the English literary and intellectual history through insight into the 18th century sources of literary and intellectual traditions, mainly the socio-historical and cultural conditioning of the emergence and popularization of the novel genre in England; - will be trained for further independent work on the literary

Aims The aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to learn about literature and cultural and historical circumstances in the UK in the 20th century so that their skills for studying poetry, novels and drama written in this period are improved.
Learning outcomes After the course the students will be able to: describe social and historical features of the British society of the 20th century as a background for the literary expression of the time; list and recognize in the text the key features of the English modern novel; list the key British modernist writers and describe their lives and works; recognize and analyze the key literary pieces of British literature of the 20th century; make a distinction between and compare literary pieces that belong to modernism and those that belong to postmodernism
