Ⅱ. Theme

Learn Chinese, Double Your World

Ⅲ. Purpose

This competition intends to provide a platform for adolescent students to show their Chinese proficiency, learn from one another and conduct exchanges, in a bid to stimulate their enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese and enhance their understanding about Chinese language and culture.

Yunnan Province Education Department, Yunnan Normal University with Yunnan Radio and Television Bureau

Ⅵ. Organizer

An organizing committee will be set up by the sponsor and the host, which will be responsible for making decisions and making assessments on major issues.

Ⅶ. Participants

Foreign secondary students who are between 15 and 20 of age with foreign nationalities or overseas-born Chinese whose first language are not Chinese.

Winners of the previous competition are not allowed to participate in the competition for twice in a row.

Ⅷ. Contents

  1. a) Chinese language proficiency: Communication, reading and writing abilities;
  2. b) Knowledge of China:

Hanban’s Website will release questions and answer keys through [bridge.Chinese.cn] or the official website of the Confucius Institute Online [www.chinesecio.com].

Participants can also refer to related content from the following websites: www.china.org.cn, www.xinhuanet.com.cn, www.people.com.cn, www.cqnews.com.cn;

  1. c) Chinese cultural skills: Chinese songs, music, dance, folk arts, acrobatics, musical instruments; calligraphy, Chinese paintings, Chinese paper-cutting, Chinese martial arts, etc.
  2. d) Comprehensive learning ability:

Chiefly examine students’ comprehensive learning ability and practical ability

Ⅸ. Arrangement

The competition is divided into preliminaries and finals. The first round will be held in competitors home countries, while the finals will take place in Yunnan province of China from 13th October to 29th October. The airfare, accommodation and transportation expense of 2 participants invited to China for the competition will be provided by the organizing committee. After the competition, participants will be sent back in groups by the committee. The observers will be responsible for his or her fee.

Preliminary (before 31st August)

Selected by the educational or cultural department of a Chinese Embassy (consulate), Confucius Institute or relevant educational institution; 2 participants and 1 leading teacher are included in each group,.

Finals (13th October-29th October)

The competition will include personal competition and group competition. The cumulative integral system and a promotional method will be used to select the prize. Prizes will be handed out for single event as well.
