Book Promotion of Karin Roginer Hofmaister from Charles University in Prague Held at the Institute for Advanced Studies

On Wednesday, 28 May 2025, the Institute for Advanced Studies organized the promotion of the book Remembering Suffering and Resistance: Memory Politics and the Serbian Orthodox Church, authored by Karin Roginer Hofmaister and published by Central European University Press. The discussion with the author was moderated by Feđa Pavlović, Research Associate at the Institute for Advanced Studies.

How does a religious institution navigate the uncertain waters of collective memory in a society marked by political transition and so-called ontological insecurity? At the book promotion event, the audience had the opportunity to hear Dr Roginer Hofmaister’s lecture on the memory politics of the Serbian Orthodox Church in post-2000 Serbia, with a particular focus on the Church’s role in shaping narratives of Serbian suffering during the Second World War.

Karin Roginer Hofmaister is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in Holocaust Studies at the Institute of International Studies, Charles University in Prague, where she also coordinates the activities of the Malach Center for Visual History. Her research focuses on the contemporary history of Southeast Europe, with particular attention to religious institutions and their role in the reconstruction of collective memory and identity.
