We are proud to present the successful scientific research activities of three talented students from the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology at the University of Montenegro, who have achieved notable participation in international scientific conferences.

Minea Kapidžić, Sonja Kastratović, and Danilo Marković, as final-year students of Chemical Technology, showed interest and took the initiative to start scientific research work in the Laboratory for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, which conducts research on materials for energy storage and conversion. Since April 2023, they have been intensively working on the synthesis and characterization of several electrode materials. They focused on the synthesis and electrochemical examination of an environmentally friendly cathode material for sodium-ion batteries, as well as various methods for obtaining activated carbon from two types of waste biomass – grapevine branches and olive pomace. The obtained carbon materials were tested for application in aqueous supercapacitors.

They presented the results of their research, which they diligently worked on throughout the summer, at several international scientific conferences. At the 24th YUCOMAT conference held from September 4-8 in Herceg Novi, Minea, Sonja, and Danilo presented three papers in the form of poster presentations. The YUCOMAT conference has been gathering scientists from around the world in the field of materials engineering and nanotechnologies for years, and this year our students made a very notable participation as the youngest attendees of the conference. Their dedication, research spirit, and enthusiasm attracted attention. At the end of September, at the Second International Conference on Chemo and Bioinformatics held in Kragujevac, Minea and Sonja presented the results of research studying the interdependence of structural characteristics and pseudocapacitive behavior of carbon obtained from biomass, which all three worked on. Additionally, Minea and Sonja also tried their hand at oral presentations, separately presenting the results they worked on during the "21st Young Researchers Conference Materials Science and Engineering" held from November 29 to December 1 at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade.

Through participation in international conferences, our students have made valuable contacts with peers and experts in the field, thereby expanding their network and making a significant contribution to the academic community and the internationalization of our faculty.
