Promotion of the Book on Islamic Architecture and Art in Croatia on May 23rd

The promotion of the book Islamic Architecture and Art in Croatia: Ottoman and Sovereign Heritage will be held in the Sports and Cultural Center of the University of Montenegro (SCC UoM), (Baku Street 1, Podgorica), on Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 at 12.15.

Professor Rifat Alihodzic from the Faculty of Architecture in Podgorica will talk about the book, next to the lectures of the author, and architects Zlatko Karac, PhD and Alen Zunic, PhD.

 The book is awarded by the prestigious Ranko Radovic Award for 2018 year in the category of Publications.

 Biographies of Authors:

Zlatko Karac, PhD, was born in Vukovar, 1961; he graduated at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb in 1987, where he finished his doctorate on the topic of Ottoman urbanism. He is the Associate professor at the Department of Urban Planning, he is the scientific advisor and Vice-Dean for Science at FoA in Zagreb, he is the Senate member of the University of Zagreb. He has taught at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Forestry, University of Technology in Zagreb, as well as several postgraduate and PhD studies.

He founded and leads the Board of Islamic Architecture and Art at the Faculty of Philosophy.

He deals with urban and spatial planning, especially with conservation issues and the protection of heritage, as well as the history of Croatian architecture and urbanism.

He has published more than 500 scientific, professional and popularization works. He is the winner of annual National Award for Science 2012; he is the main and editor-in-chief of very popular journal Prostor (WoS indexation)

Alen Zunic, PhD, was born in Zagreb in 1989; he has finished undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb in 2011, graduated in 2013 (both stages with the highest average and grades summa cum laude), he finished his PhD studies in 2016. He has graduated his postgraduate studies on the History and Philosophy of Design department at GSD Harvard University from 2013-2015; he has attended postdoctoral studies at  ETH Zürich – Institut für Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur since 2017;  he is the researcher at Columbia University NY since 2019. He has published more than 280 works, mainly on the architecture of 20th and 21st century, including 14 copyright and editorial books and several articles about Islamic Encyclopedia.

He is the winner of the International Award Ranko Radovic for theoretical contributions to the architecture.

He is the Assistant professor at FoA in Zagreb, he is the hosting lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana, as well as faculties of Philosophy in Belgrade and Zagreb.
