On June 7, Jelena Mijušković, a student of the Faculty of Science, who completed her undergraduate, specialist and master studies at our faculty, defended her doctoral dissertation entitled: "Measurement of the N-jettiness variables in the production of Z boson events with the CMS detector and performance of its electromagnetic calorimeter”.

This is also the first doctoral dissertation defended at the University of Montenegro in the field of experimental particle physics with CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector, which is one of the two largest experiments in particle physics in the world and is performed at CERN in Geneva. In the CMS there is a collision of protons accelerated in the Large Hadron Collider - LHC (Large Hadron Collider). The University of Montenegro has been a full member of the CMS collaboration since July 2017, when an Agreement of Understanding was signed between the Government of Montenegro and CERN.

This doctorate was realized according to the Agreement on Dual Doctorate between the University of Montenegro and the University of Paris Saclay, which is a leading university in the field of natural and mathematical sciences).

The Defense Commission consisted of a total of eight members, two of whom were from the University of Montenegro, and the rest from five renowned European scientific institutions in this field of physics: Dr. Natasa Raicevic (mentor), Dr. Federico Ferri (commentator), Dr. Philippe Grass supervisor), Dr. Ivana Pićurić, Dr. Ulla Blumenschein, Dr. Marco Delmastro, Dr. Lydia Iconomidou – Fayard and Dr. Simone Alioli. The Commission especially praised and expressed gratitude for the work which, in addition to new and very important measurements in physics, also contains a section dedicated to detector components, which is extremely important for obtaining many physical results in CMS.

Congratulations to Jelena and we wish her all the best in her future work and life!
