After passing this exam, the student will be able to: 1. Master the basic characteristics of all epochs in the language. 2. Explain and recognize the most important linguistic processes in the history of the German language. 3. Understand and analyze texts from the Middle High German epoch. 4. Explain the significance of Gutenberg and Martin Luther in the history of the German language.
