Upon completion and passing of the course, the student will be able to: Understand the historical development of power cables and contemporary trends in their production. Identify and comprehend the advantages and disadvantages of power cables compared to overhead power lines, along with all relevant technical and economic parameters for their application in distribution and transmission networks. Classify and compare power cables based on all relevant energy, functional, structural, and design criteria. Recognize and identify the structural elements of power cables and their specifics concerning voltage levels and installation conditions. Calculate the parameters of power cables and conduct their measurements in laboratory and operational conditions. Compute the current load of cables with different constructional characteristics under various operational conditions and make their selection and verification based on relevant technical-economic criteria. Define and apply testing methods for power cables and methods for detecting cable faults in laboratory and operational conditions. Apply acquired knowledge to solve problems related to the application and operation of power cables in transmission and distribution networks of real power systems.
