Biography - Nikčević-Batrićević Aleksandra

Aleksandra Nikčević-Batrićević was born in Zadar, Croatia on 13 January 1972. She graduated in English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro. She gained the academic title of Master of Philology at the Department for English Language and Literature of the Faculty of Philology at the University of Belgrade (in American literature, under the mentorship of Prof. Tihomir Vučković). She gained her doctorate at the Department for Anglistics at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Novi Sad (in American literature, under the mentorship of Prof. Zoran Paunović).

Her work experience includes employment as a teaching assistant within the Study Programme for English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro (October 1996–June 2009), as a docent professor within the Study Programme for English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro (June 2009–June 2015), and since then as an associate professor within the Study Programme for English Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro.

Aleksandra Nikčević-Batrićević lectures in American literature, teaches a special course from literature (feminist literary theory and criticism, American women’s poetry) within the Study Programme for English Language and Literature, and teaches English within the Study Programme for History. She is the author of various texts on American and English literature, and she is involved in literary theory and criticism and the translation of texts on literature and literary theory. She has edited and translated many books published in Montenegro and the United Kingdom.

Between September 2013 and November 2015, she was the Study Programme for English Language and Literature coordinator at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro. She is the president of the “Dr. Biljana Milatović” Montenegrin Society for American Studies and one of the organizers of an international conference of Anglicists held at the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić, organized by the Study Programme for English Language and Literature. She has organized conferences dedicated to women’s writing held at the American Corner in Podgorica and Cetinje.    

She has initiated many translation projects in cooperation with the Open Cultural Forum in Cetinje, which have resulted in many publications in American literature. She is the coordinator of several projects being realized in the former Yugoslavia, of which the most significant project of national importance is being financed by the Montenegrin Ministry of Science and Ministry of Education under the title Modern Literary-Theoretical Reading: New Insights into Theoretical and Critical Discourse, which was realized over two years (2012–2015).

She has had many stays in English-speaking areas, carrying out research in American literature (2002, 2004, 2007, 2009, and 2013, in Cambridge, New York, and other cities in the USA). In 2004, she spent time as part of a Melville Society scholarship at the Maritime Institute in New Bradford, Massachusetts, where she carried out research on the literature of American writer Herman Melville under the mentorship of Prof. Wyn Kelley of MIT.
