Biography - Nikčević Jelena

Professor Jelena Nikcevic was born in Niksic, Montenegro in 1972. She completed her Elementary and High School with excellent marks. She enrolled at the Faculty of Law in Podgorica in 1990 and graduated from the same Faculty in 1994. Immediately after graduating she enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Law. She defended her master thesis in December 1998. In February 2004 she defended her PhD dissertation entitled ‘Maritime Liens in Yugoslav and Comparative Law’ at the Faculty of Law in Belgrade. According to the Decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Montenegro she received a scholarship and worked as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Law in Podgorica from 1994 to 1997. In 1 October 1999 she started to work at the Faculty of Maritime Studies as a full-time employee. Shortly afterwards, she was elected as teaching assistant for a group of legal courses. She was elected as an assistant professor on 1 April 2005 for the aforementioned group of courses after which, in 2010, she was elected as an associate professor which position she still holds. She works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management and the Seafarers Training Centre in Kotor for the course Maritime Law. She cooperates with many maritime institutions in the country and the region. From 2011 until 2016, Jelena Nikcevic has held the position of Vice Dean for Finance at the Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor. Subjects of her scientific interest are, as follows: maritime law, marine environmental law, marine insurance and business law. She participated in the work of a large number of domestic and international meetings, where she submitted papers which were published in publications from these meetings. She published more than forty scientific papers in national and international journals in the field of maritime and business law. Her studying at the Rhodes Academy of Oceans Law and Policy in Greece, LAL Language Centre in London and the International Maritime Law Institute, IMO based in Malta was very important for her professional development.
