The 9th consecutive International Conference "Civil Engineering – Science and Practice" GNP2024 was opened yesterday in Kolašin by the rector of the University of Montenegro, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Božović.

The Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Marina Rakočević, expressed her honor that the Faculty of Civil Engineering has traditionally been organizing the conference for 9 years, gathering the top experts in the field of civil engineering and enabling researchers, scientists, and engineers to exchange opinions on a wide range of topics in civil engineering.

"We are holding the conference in the year that marks the 45th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that hit Montenegro, which is why the main theme today is focused on earthquake-resistant structures, with speakers from countries that have had similar experiences to Montenegro in 1979," she said.

She added that it is an exceptional honor for her that the GNP2024 conference is also held in the year when the University of Montenegro celebrates its jubilee - 50 years of existence, operation, and development, under the slogan FuturUM.

"This conference is one of the more significant events that the University of Montenegro is organizing in celebration of the jubilee, also one in a series of events that will take place this year, dedicated to the anniversary year," the dean stated.

The GNP 2024 conference proceedings consist of 157 papers, which are contributions from 378 authors from 22 countries across Europe and beyond, explained Dean Rakočević. She also added that through innovations, research, discussions, and exchange of opinions, the Faculty of Civil Engineering aims to pave the way for further development of civil engineering and contribute to the overall development of our society.

The conference lectures, organized through special sessions, panel discussions, and round tables, will last until March 9.
