SHAREMED Project: Connecting Marine Research and Increasing Benefits for Society 




Representatives of the Institute of Marine Biology of the University of Montenegro participated in the international workshop Connecting marine research and increasing benefits for society, in Malta, from September 13 to 14, 2022. In addition to IBM representatives, the workshop gathered 11 partners from eight countries within the framework of Interreg MED SHAREMED project Exchange and improvement of capabilities to deal with threats to the environment in the Mediterranean Sea. A meeting of the Board of Diredctors was also held.

In addition to representatives of the working team of the Institute, the representatives of the Public Enterprise for the Management of Marine Assets of Montenegro, as an institution of the system whose role is of key importance for the preservation of the marine environment in our country, also participated in the international workshop.

A series of presentations presented the main goals achieved by the project, which included the presentation of new hydrodynamic-biogeochemical models, geoportals and tools that were created as a result of project activities. In the session "Present and Future", future perspectives of activities at the level of the Mediterranean with the aim of understanding and overcoming the harmful anthropogenic impact were presented.

The workshop was also attended by representatives of African countries, as well as Eastern Mediterranean countries, which are not directly involved in the project, but with their presence in the Mediterranean have a great influence on the quality of the marine ecosystem.

The event was organized by the Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale - OGS from Italy, which is the leader of the project, and the host was one of the partners - the University of Malta.
