Institute - Centre of Excellence for Research and Innovations is established by the Decision of the Governing Board of the University of Montenegro in February 2018 (Decision no. 02-26/3), to contribute to the deployment, networking and coordination of research and innovation resources at the University of Montenegro, with the aim of enhancing the productivity of research teams, intensifying the participation in scientific-research projects financed from external funds, fostering synergy and interdisciplinarity in research, stimulating the cooperation with domestic and foreign research entities, stimulating the cooperation with business sector, establishing the framework for commercialization of scientific research results, etc. The scope of the work of the Institute shall result in strengthening the competitiveness of the University in the areas of scientific-research and innovations.

The Institute as licensed science-research institution will be achieving its goals through the following activities:

 ■   Support, promotion and realization of basic, developmental and applied research;

 ■   Preparation of applications, formation of interdisciplinary teams, realization and management of national and international projects;

 ■   Development of innovative solutions, patents, prototypes and similar;

 ■   Training in the field of research, protection of intellectual property rights, patent applications and similar;

 ■   Design and preparation of professional reports, analyses and studies;

 ■   Development of partnerships with business entities and connecting researchers and students with business partners;

 ■   Fostering investments of business sector in research and development;

 ■   Providing support to and strengthening the links with business incubators and science-technology parks;

 ■   Supporting the development of business incubators within the University of Montenegro;

 ■   Joint participation in the market with other units whose activities are related to transfer of knowledge and technologies;

 ■   Providing access to resources, equipment, trainings, research results, patents and licenses, which are on offer to business environment;

 ■   Organization of scientific conferences, seminars and similar events dedicated to research and innovations;

 ■   Organization of professional development programmes through seminars, courses and similar;

 ■   Providing consultative/professional services in the process of technology transfer;

The Center for Technology Transfer exists as a sub-organizational unit within the Institute, to provide support and assistance to faculties and institutes belonging to the University of Montenegro, but also to other institutions in Montenegro engaged in scientific-research and innovation activities, in the domain of technology transfer, commercialization of research results and realization of innovative projects, and it also provides assistance in establishing the cooperation between academia and business sector, transfer of knowledge towards business sector, analyses of market needs, distribution of new technologies and innovations, and intellectual property protection issues.
