The Faculty of Drama Art at Cetinje started working as a department at the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1994/95 and in 1997 it was founded as an independent university unit.

Since its foundation, the main mission of the Faculty, developing high-quality study programs and modules in different areas of drama and audio-visual arts, has been to provide a high level of education and artistic progress of its students as well as their professional integration into the labor market. The activities in this area, implemented over the past twenty years, have also led to the development of a strong professional base within the entire Montenegrin cultural and creative sector. Former students of the Faculty of Drama Art at Cetinje are today important actors of artistic, cultural and media production in Montenegro.

The Faculty of Drama Art organizes basic and postgraduate studies in the field of drama and theater, film and media and, educating future actors, producers, theater and film directors and dramatists, is a major source of cadre in drama arts in our country.

The work of the Faculty is characterized by a strong link between educational, artistic and research activities, high quality realization of the process of artistic education at all levels of academic studies, teaching organized through small groups, excellent teaching staff, exceptional dedication to students as well as the possibility that, during the study, the students participate in significant projects. Teaching takes place through creative workshops, led by experienced pedagogues - well-known contemporary theater and filmmaking creators as well as through lectures by theoreticians of art and culture interacting with creative practice.

The faculty has enabled professional integration for over 200 of its former students. Our students are now recognized throughout the region as well-known theater and film directors, actors, producers, dramatists, culture managers, media professionals as well as practitioners in various fields of art.

The public has shown great interest for the functioning of the Faculty since its founding, and it is growing year after year, thanks to annual examinations, open to the public as well as to other projects realized by the Faculty. Strengthening and connecting with the institutions of culture and media, the artistic work of our teachers and associates, who have a leading role in a great number of events in the field of drama and audiovisual art, as well as the work of our graduate students, today's successful creators, permanently enhance the reputation of the Faculty. Nowadays, the cultural, artistic and media community recognizes the importance, role and significance of the Faculty of Drama Art in the country.

Apart from the curriculum, the Faculty of Drama Art has realized and organized a number of significant extracurricular activities and projects over the years. These activities include the organization of various art workshops, summer schools, scientific conferences, round tables, seminars as well as various art projects in film, theater, acting, dramaturgy, film, television and theater directing. All activities were carried out in cooperation with institutional partners from the public, private and non-governmental sector at the international, national and local level. The list of these partners includes, in particular, the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro, UNESCO, UNICEF, Montenegro's National Radio and Television Service (RTCG), the Montenegrin National Theater, as well as the Royal Theater Zetski dom, festivals and events of national importance, numerous cultural centers , As well as other regional faculties of drama arts in Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Slovenia. Thus, the Faculty of Drama Art at Cetinje is present in the public and recognizable not only within Montenegro but also in regional projects in which it actively participates.

The Faculty is continuously and systematically committed to improving the quality of its programs. According to the new, accredited model of basic studies at the Faculty of Drama Arts  the teaching from the study of 2017/2018 is organized within three study programs, namely: Acting, Film and Media Studies as well as Drama and Theater Studies.

According to its institutional orientation, the main mission of the Faculty will continue to be to promote drama and audiovisual art education and creativity, continuously enhance and strengthen artistic practice and production in Montenegro, as well as to ensure the professionalization of the entire sector of culture, art and media in Montenegro.
