The Student Parliament of the University of Montenegro (SPUCG) actively shapes the development path of both the University and Montenegrin society. It is a partner and participant in all major issues and processes in the domain of higher education and youth policies and plays a significant role in establishing a value system for the overall betterment.

This message was conveyed at the ceremonial academy marking 20 years of the Student Parliament of the University of Montenegros activities and work.

Andrej Vukčević, President of SPUCG, stated that the organization had navigated numerous challenges over two decades, managing to maintain autonomy and advocating solely for the interest of students.

“We can boast that today we are partners and participants in all important issues and processes in the field of higher education, youth policies, as well as cultural and sports events for the youth. Dedicated to representing Montenegrin students at the European level, and applying best practices at the national level, we have implemented reforms that are fully in line with the highest standards of student organization and student participation,” Vukčević said.

He announced that SPUCG would act as a successful and proactive student organization with numerous projects realized on national, regional, and European grounds.

“We will actively work on promoting student activism, improving the position and status of students, and continuously follow trends in the field of higher education in Montenegro and Europe,” Vukčević’s message read.

President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, said that since its inception, the University of Montenegro has been the intellectual core of society, and over two decades, SPUCG has worked diligently to ensure that students voices are heard and their interests further affirmed.

“Students have always been a symbol of pioneering ideas and heralds of a societys struggle for progress. The Student Parliament is the heart of every University, including ours. It is a platform for expressing ideas. Those who know a lot can see far and think critically,” said Milatović.

Over the past 20 years, SPUCG has actively shaped the development path of the University and society.

“This anniversary is a reminder that we, as decision-makers, have an obligation to support you in your persistent struggle for greater student rights. Because this is a fight for excellence, intelligence, and fairness, as well as a fight to keep young people in our country,” Milatović stated.

On the eve of Student Day, he emphasized that knowledge and critical thought are the greatest assets of every individual, "which no one can take from you and the only basis on which a prosperous society of equal opportunities is built."

Vladimir Božović, Rector of the University of Montenegro, emphasized that knowledge is the foundation upon which all advanced civilizations rest, and universities are the guardians and transmitters of this immeasurable value.

“Since its founding, this learned community of professors and students symbolizes continuous intellectual development. Inheriting and nurturing existing knowledge, professors pass it on to their students, who, through their innovation, enhance it by opening new horizons,” said Božović.

According to him, students are the force that drives the wheels of the future, and this is true at the University of Montenegro.

“The establishment of SPUCG in 2004 marked an important milestone and represents a significant step towards the institutionalization of student participation in the life of the University of Montenegro. I believe that this anniversary, actually a reminder of all those who have created the tradition of the Student Parliament, will be a good incentive for future generations to create new values,” said Božović.

The Student Parliament, he highlighted, plays a large, very serious role in society, which is to help establish a value system for the overall betterment.

“We need diligent, persistent, and brave people to break away from mediocrity and provincialism. To succeed, its necessary to build a new generation of leaders in this country in time, and I know many have grown within the Student Parliament,” said Božović.

Iris Kimizoglu, Vice President of the European Students Union, highlighted that the achievements of SPUCG stand as proof of its success in enhancing the student experience, and every member of SPUCG has a reason to be proud of these accomplishments.

“Student associations like SPUCG serve as bastions of democratic and civic values, advocating for social justice and driving transformative changes that resonate through society. The establishment of SPUCG symbolizes not only a victory for the position of students but also a confirmation of democratic principles and the pursuit of social justice,” Kimizoglu clearly stated.

Congratulations on the anniversary to the Student Parliament of the University of Montenegro were also sent by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, and during the ceremonial session, plaques and certificates of appreciation were awarded to deserving individuals.
