The "Air Quality Monitoring System" project, led by Ivan Martinović, a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Montenegro, has gained international acclaim by becoming one of the top five projects worldwide in the e-environment category. This recognition was awarded at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), marking a significant achievement not just for the city of Cetinje but for all of Montenegro.

The project is part of the innovative "Cetinje Smart City" concept. Montenegro, along with Slovenia, is the only country from the Western Balkans to boast this prestigious recognition, further affirming the significance of this accomplishment on the international stage.

The WSIS Prize 2024 Champion recognition, awarded by the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations umbrella institution for ICT, is considered one of the most prestigious accolades in the field of information technology.

The award ceremony is scheduled for May 30 in Geneva, Switzerland, during the WSIS+20 Forum. This recognition not only positions Montenegro on the global map of countries excelling in IT but also promotes Cetinje as a city striving towards digital transformation and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.

Doctoral candidate Martinović expressed special thanks to the Montenegrin public, whose votes supported the project in the international competition. He also thanked the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica, American Corner Cetinje, and the participants of the "Air Quality Camp" program who contributed to the project through STEM education. Lastly, Martinović acknowledged the institutions that supported the projects development, including Prona - Montenegrin Science Promotion Foundation, the University of Montenegro, and the University of Toronto.

The "Air Quality Monitoring System" project represents an important step towards implementing advanced technologies in everyday life, thereby enabling more efficient monitoring and management of air quality in urban environments. This recognition testifies to the quality and innovation of Montenegrin projects on the global stage.
