Others write about us: Professor Malenčić from Novi Sad on 30 Years of Collaboration with the Biotechnical Faculty
The communication and collaboration between the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad and the Biotechnical Faculty in Podgorica - Subtropical Cultures Center in Bar began 30 years ago when Prof. Dr. Olga Gašić and Dr. Ksenija Miranović established the cooperation. The first biochemical examinations of olives from the Montenegrin coast were initiated in our then common country with the doctoral dissertation of Prof. Dr. Biljana Lazović.
This cooperation has never ceased and continued in the previous period thanks to the efforts of Prof. Lazović and Prof. Dr. Đorđe Malenčić, who from 2016 to 2018 carried out a bilateral project between Serbia and Montenegro titled "Indigenous fruit varieties in Serbia and Montenegro as a source of functional food: chemical characterization and antioxidant capacity."
This collaboration included mutual visits, introductions of younger associates, strengthening existing connections, and establishing new ones. Also, fruit samples were collected from the continental parts of Montenegro (wild strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.), as well as those from the coastal areas (pomegranate, fig, olive), which were phytochemical and biochemical analyzed in the Biochemical Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad. This cooperation resulted in several international-level publications (two papers in leading journals from the SCI list and a chapter in an international monograph), visits within the CEEPUS teacher mobility, a larger number of reports at international congresses, and several defended thesis papers.
Most importantly, over these 30 years of work and fellowship, sincere friendly human relationships have been established that continue even when there is no official cooperation - scientists from Novi Sad regularly visit their colleagues in Bar and are even happier when they can host them in return.
